James L. Chen, MD is an associate professor in the Departments of Biomedical Informatics and Internal Medicine (Division of Medical Oncology)​. Dr. Chen focuses in the fields of translational bioinformatics and integrative genomics as applied to cancer. He is particularly interested in the personalization of medicine through the development of novel biomarkers of molecular pathway activation using high-throughput genomic techniques. These biomarkers may ultimately assist clinicians in customizing treatment regimens for their patients. Dr. Chen has received numerous awards for his work integrating oncology and bioinformatics. Dr. Chen has a clinical research interest in prostate, bladder, kidney, and sarcoma cancers.

 

Dr. Chen received his BA from Harvard University and his MD from NJ Medical School. He completed his internal medicine training at Georgetown University and his hematology/oncology training at the University of Chicago. Dr. Chen has also spent a substantial amount of time in the biotechnology industry developing biological data models.
