Jaime Sabel is the Director of the Center for Life Sciences Education and an Associate Professor in the Department of Molecular Genetics. Dr. Sabel began her research career as a developmental geneticist and then transitioned to biology education research. Her current research focuses on the effective use of various classroom learning scaffolds to support undergraduate students in learning biology. The primary focus of her lab is on how metacognition develops in undergraduate students and interventions that can support this development. Other projects include understanding plant awareness disparity (the tendency not to notice plants in surrounding environments), science communication (particularly as it relates to scientists discussing their research with the public), and how students learn about various discipline-specific topics (e.g., enzymes, genetics).
