This event is open to: 1) STEAM members who want to pitch an idea, 2) STEAM members who are not interest in pitching and seeking to join proposals, as well as 3) interested Community Partners. Please register here if you want to join us for the virtual event. Ohio State’s Office of Research, as part of a call for action on racial justice, plans to award small ($5-25k) and large ($25-50k) grants for projects of 12 months or less in duration (during CY2021) that aim to address the historic and contemporary effects of racism and racial disparities found in all aspects of American society. The grants “will be used to seed innovative, untested, and/or exploratory research approaches and creative ideas that will contribute to the elimination of racism and solve its underlying causes and consequences on our campuses, in our community, and across the nation.” We, as members of STEAM Factory, are well-positioned to create the interdisciplinary, innovative, and translationally impactful research that propels the change needed in this world for justice and equity for all. Therefore, we aim to help facilitate idea generation and discussion around what research you think is possible and needed.   Specifically, we will host an evening event on Thursday, August 27th from 6 to 8pm. Anyone interested in hearing what others are up to and contributing feedback or suggestions can register here to attend the event online via Zoom. Folks wanting to pitch an idea must also register for the event and answer these 3 questions during a brief (likely 2 minutes or less) ‘presentation’ at the event: What’s the big idea? Describe what kind of research or project you would like to conduct. Which target audience(s) will benefit from the work? Why will your approach change the world? Who’s in on it? Specifically, what kind(s) of collaboration do you already have confirmed (if any)? What kinds of expertise, disciplines, or partnerships do you think could contribute going forward? In what ways can we help? Raggedy approaches are welcome. But a few details can help: Are you expecting to be PI or open to combing forces with others by joining another team? What other things should folks consider when thinking about your idea?   For ‘presenters’, you can use a slide or no slide at all (similar to other past events like your research in 60 seconds or origin stories). For audience members, you will have the opportunity to interactively provide feedback on ideas pitched (kudos, questions, comments) in the interest of helping our colleagues strengthen and clarify their approaches, find new partners, and more.   By the end of the night, we hope your ideas are strengthened, new collaborations are formed, and everyone is ready to finalize their ideas to create an anti-racist, truly equitable future. We look forward to welcoming you back to STEAM this autumn! Virtual on Zoom The STEAM Factory at The Ohio State University steamfactory@osu.edu America/New_York public
