The Environmental Humanities Arts and Humanities Discovery Theme welcomes Nicholas Mirzoeff (New York University, Department of Media, Culture & Communication) on October 27th at 3 p.m in 130 CBEC (Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and Chemistry Building).

Mirzoeff's talk is entitled, "Sinking, Sounding, Sunken, Fallen: Anti-antiblackness and Earth Systems Crisis."
What does it mean to approach the Earth system crisis from the perspective of anti-antiblackness? How does "race" configure the delineation of geology? What happens when "deep time" becomes revolutionary time? This presentation looks at these questions anba dlo, from below the water, via Grace Lee Boggs, Oglala Lakota poet Layla Long Soldier, philosopher Fred Moten, painter JMW Turner, Confederate monuments and the movie Get Out.
