You are warmly invited to join us for our second STEAM Exchange of 2023, Topic: Light from 6-8pm on April 20th at the STEAM Factory!! These monthly salon-style seminars provide an excellent opportunity to meet scholars from across the university for a lively, engaging, informative, disciplinarily diverse, and well-catered evening! These events are a fun way to learn from other academics, share research interests, engage in a broad array of lively conversations, connect with new (and existing) colleagues, and discover new possibilities, ideas, and collaborators. Bring a friend! STEAM Exchanges provide a great opportunity to introduce new folks to our STEAM community and you are encouraged and welcome to bring a colleague or friend. Presenters on Light, moderated by Jessi Middleton: Dr. Anna Gawboy - Associate Professor, School of Music, The Ohio State University Anna Gawboy is Associate Professor of Music Theory in the School of Music. Her work explores cultural history and multimedia, with a special focus on visualized music. She is internationally known for her collaboration with lighting designer Justin Townsend on their reconstruction of Alexander Scriabin's color symphony Prometheus, Poem of Fire, most recently performed with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam, scheduled to be performed with the Boston Symphony next April. Her current research examines how early twentieth-century theories of audiovisuality were informed by esoteric spirituality and science. Dr. Doug Misquitta - Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health, The Ohio State University Douglas Misquitta, MD is a psychiatrist at The Ohio State University (OSU).  He has subspecialty training in Forensic Psychiatry, and is the Director of OSU’s Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship training program.  He is medical director of OSU Psychiatry’s ambulatory services.  Dr. Misquitta practices psychiatry in outpatient, correctional, and partial hospitalization/intensive outpatient settings; and treats patients suffering from anxiety, depression, trauma, and personality disorders.  He is involved in the training and education of residents, fellows, and medical students. Dr. Louis DiMauro - Director, Institute for Optical Science, The Ohio State University Louis F. DiMauro is Professor of Physics and Hagenlocker Chair at the Ohio State University. He received his BA (1975) from Hunter College, CUNY and his Ph.D. (1980) from University of Connecticut and was a postdoctoral fellow at SUNY, Stony Brook before arriving at AT&T Bell Laboratories in 1981. He joined the staff at Brookhaven National Laboratory in 1988 rising to the rank of senior scientist. In 2004 he became faculty at The Ohio State University. He was awarded 2004 BNL/BSA Science & Technology Prize, 2012 OSU Distinguish Scholar Award, the 2013 OSA Meggers Prize and the 2017 APS Schawlow Prize in Laser Science. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society, Optica and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. His research interest span experimental ultra-fast and strong-field physics. Our monthly themed interdisciplinary seminars known as STEAM Exchanges bring multiple disciplines perspectives to bear on a single subject such as Conflict, Progress, or Bias.  Diverse speakers are invited to present on their research and discipline as it relates to the monthly thematic topic. These discussions are intended to highlight current research, bringing multiple disciplinary perspectives to bear on a single issue with the purpose of enhancing scholarly community and sense of belonging, identifying opportunities for cross-collaboration, encourage the sharing of individual expertise, tools and resources and to enhance teaching and facilitate professional development.
