Dr. Patrick Bassal is an assistant professor of geotechnical engineering in the Department of Civil, Environmental, & Geodetic Engineering. His research integrates geotechnical modeling, innovative subsurface characterization methods, and remote sensing tools to advance understanding of ground failures on the built environment following natural hazards . He has contributed to on-site reconnaissance efforts to document engineering case histories following extreme events, including the 2023 Türkiye-Syria earthquakes, 2020 Nevada earthquake, 2017 Hurricane Harvey, and 2010-11 Canterbury earthquake sequence. He collects early folk and classic rock records on vinyl, and often plays children's music on guitar for his kids before bedtime.
