Since joining the university in July 2019, Dean Amy Fairchild led the College of Public Health during an especially challenging time. Instrumental in the university's robust response to the COVID-19 pandemic, she provided critical leadership to the Comprehensive Monitoring Team and creation of the Contact Tracing Team, which worked to keep students, faculty, staff and the broader community safe. During Fairchild's tenure, the college saw rising enrollment, and increased research expenditures and donor support. Faculty and staff grew by 40%.

Under her leadership, the college also became a national thought leader. Fairchild regularly offered her expertise to leading media outlets while encouraging and supporting other faculty as they did the same. The college continues to rank in the U.S. News & World Report top 25 colleges and programs of public health at No. 22 overall and is ranked the top program in Ohio. The college's Master of Health Administration program ranks eighth among the top 10 programs in the nation. The college's epidemiology specialty ranks 19th. Upon stepping down as dean, Fairchild will join Syracuse University's Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs as a professor.
