STEAM Factory Member, Chuan Xue, Awarded Prestigious NSF CAREER Awards
Congratulations, Chuan!
Please join the STEAM Factory in congratulating STEAM Factory member, Dr. Chuan Xue (Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics) on her NSF CAREER Award. The submitted proposal was titled "Multiscale modeling of axonal cytoskeleton dynamics and axonal transport".
A brief summary of the proposal :
This project is to develop new multiscale models and methods to help understand the dynamic behavior of the intracellular polymer system in neurons and potential causes of intracellular traffic jams. The mathematical methods include stochastic differential equations, partial differential equations, and asymptotic and numerical methods. The mathematical models will be used to investigate testable hypotheses, guide new experiments and will advance our understanding of neurodegenerative diseases. This project will also provide excellent research opportunities for graduate students in applied mathematics and mathematical biology.

From the NSF, CAREER: The Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program is a Foundation-wide activity that offers the National Science Foundation's most prestigious awards in support of junior faculty who exemplify the role of teacher-scholars through outstanding research, excellent education and the integration of education and research within the context of the mission of their organizations. Such activities should build a firm foundation for a lifetime of leadership in integrating education and research. NSF encourages submission of CAREER proposals from junior faculty members at all CAREER-eligible organizations and especially encourages women, members of underrepresented minority groups, and persons with disabilities to apply.
