STEAM Showcase

Rob Pyatt Weird Science Presentation

By Faryn Ash, STEAM Intern

On Thursday, September 8, 2016 The College of Arts and Sciences hosted the STEAM Factory Showcase in the Strongwater gallery at 400 West Rich Street. The evening was  fun way of engaging alumni, friends of STEAM, Ohio State faculty and members of the Franklinton community with STEAM members and their ongoing research and projects.

The gallery, filled with scarlet and grey balloons, smiling faces and great energy helped to set the atmosphere of the event that started at 6:00pm and ended at 8:00pm. Following the premiere of a video on information about the STEAM Factory and its members, STEAM Factory Executive Director, Roman Holowinsky, added opening remarks on the essentials of the STEAM Factory and then great conversations once again continued.

The night was filled with a diverse array of 12 STEAM Factory faculty members from a wide variety of disciplines including physics, music, pathology, and art, presenting engaging and interactive research demonstrations, presentations and micro-lectures. The evening provided a wonderful and informal opportunity for alumni and friends to interact with STEAM Factory members located in Franklinton, the burgeoning new Columbus district of arts, creativity and innovation! Presentation topics included “weird science”, “the game of life”, robotic art, and even using chemistry to make ice cream.

Throughout the evening there were 250 guests that were able to participate in various demonstrations, mingle and brainstorm ideas for new potential collaborations. The showcase was a night that could be enjoyed by the whole family.
