Education

Irem is a graduate research associate in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at The Ohio State University. After graduating from Sabanci University in 2019 with a BS degree in Materials Science and Engineering, she joined the Fontana Corrosion Center to continue her studies as a PhD student.


Her research interests include corrosion mechanisms in high strength aluminum alloys and low carbon steel, with a focus on atmospheric corrosion. Before continuing her education at The Ohio State University, Irem supervised and volunteered at variety of civic involvement projects focusing on the supporting the education of the elementary school students and empowering the young girls from disadvantaged communities in Istanbul and several other cities in Turkey.
