Niles is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics.  His research is in algebraic topology, a field which develops algebraic machinery to measure and understand high-dimensional shapes.  His broader interests include mathematical visualization as both a tool for communicating mathematics and a source of artistic inspiration.
