A. Marie Ranjbar

Assistant Professor, Department of Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies

I am a feminist political geographer concentrating on human rights, environmental justice, and social movements in Iran. My current research focuses on human rights and pluralism through examining evolving relationships between social justice movements, international institutions, and global civil society. My research also examines the everyday economic, political, and social impacts of multilateral sanctions against Iran. I am particularly interested in how economic sanctions – which are often framed through the language of human rights - can limit the space of political speech and thereby worsen human rights conditions.
